WoodWorks Presents: Mass Timber Construction: Products, Performance and Design

This presentation will provide a detailed look at the variety of mass timber products available, including glue-laminated timber (glulam), cross laminated timber (CLT), nail laminated timber (NLT), heavy timber decking, and other engineered and composite systems. Applications for the use of these products under modern building codes will be discussed, and examples of their use in U.S. projects reviewed.

Wine + Design 2019

Wine + Design 2019 – A Path to Boldness

This year’s wine and design contest will follow the theme of A Path to Boldness. Wine and design is a contest used to support The Common Thread which is a charity that is dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients and survivors within the design and furnishings industry through confidential, financial grants to assist where insurance doesn’t.

Details on the competition are below.

Submission

*Each design firm can submit one design per type of wine.
*Label submissions are due on or before Tuesday, September 10th, 2019.  Please send submissions to Lyndsi O’Donnell: lodonnell@momtex.com via Dropbox.
*The final labeled wine product will be presented to the winning design team at the Event at Marshall’s Landing on Thursday, October 10th, 2019.

Judging Criteria

Label presentation to the judge will be a blind submission to the judge.  Judging is based on the following criteria:
*Carry the message of Common Thread for the Cure
*Incorporating the 2019 event theme: Path to Boldness
*Adhering to Label Specifications
* Use of Color
*Overall Creativity

IIDA Illinois Chapter & Illinois Green Alliance Boat Cruise

The Illinois Green Alliance and IIDA Illinois Chapter are looking forward to setting sail on the Spirit of Chicago for the 15th Annual Boat Cruise today! Don’t miss this opportunity to mix, mingle, and enjoy a summer night on the Lake!

8:00 PM Boat Returns Dockside for After Party on the Boat
9:00 PM Event Ends

Registration

  • Attendees do not need to bring or show Eventbrite tickets at the Pier.
  • All attendees will have a name tag at the Pier.
  • Attendees with a name tag will be given a boarding pass prior to boarding the boat.
  • Security will be checking bags prior to boarding. No outside food or beverage will be allowed on the boat, which includes reusable water bottles.

Attire
The weather forecast for the boat cruise has historically been warm. The attire is business casual, but be sure to dress for the heat, keeping in mind the breeze on the water and the air conditioning inside the boat.

Parking
For parking and directions, please visit the Spirit Cruises website. Please note that parking will not be discounted or validated. That being said, don’t forget to look at parking apps, such as Spot Hero and ParkWhiz, for discounted rates nearby! If you’re being dropped off at the Pier, please ask to be let out at turnaround 1 or 2 near RIVA restaurant.

This year, in partnership with Titan Electric, Skender Foundation will highlight Little Wish Foundation. Founded in Indianapolis in 2010, Little Wish Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that grants wishes of pediatric oncology patients. The wishes may be small (most cost between $500 and $1,000), but their impact on children’s lives is immeasurable. The organization services fourteen children’s hospitals in six states, including Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. To date, Little Wish has granted over 1,600 little wishes to children with cancer during their treatment period.
