What Should a Company Consider When If They Are Thinking About Free Address Or Unassigned Workspaces?

The way most businesses think about free address and unassigned workspaces will change dramatically within the coming months. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean to throw out this concept completely, there is still a way to have unassigned workspaces in your office while being safe and adhering to all safety guidelines.

Implement Simple Disinfectant Solutions

The obvious answer to how can a business adapt their workplace to be flexible is to enable and buy into workplace technologies like Zoom and Microsoft 365. Equipping your employees with these workplace solutions will ensure that anyone can work anywhere without having to worry about being less efficient. Zoom calls allow employees to conduct internal and external meetings with staff or customers while being able to be safe and comfortable.

“Making sure that the station is cleaned daily. Also, people would not be able to leave items on the desk. An individual would need a ped for supplies that they would bring in and out of the stations.”

Susan NajeraSenior Corporate Accounts Manager

Consider Adapting a Flexible Workspace

As noted before, flexible workspaces will quickly become a primary return-to-work strategy for many businesses. Enabling a flexible workspace will ensure that there are never too many people working in the office at any given time and that people can be spaced far apart from each other in order to get their work done more comfortably.

“If you are going to have unassigned workspaces, you’ll need to have some people work from home, or you’ll need to add more workspaces to accommodate the number of employees that were there before.”

Darrin WeidmanVice President

Utilize Digital Technology

Digital workspace technology is going to be a hot topic for many businesses when returning to the workplace, and rightfully so, as workspace technology will play an important role in making sure everyone returns to work safely and comfortably. Easy solutions for implementing workplace technology in an unassigned workspace design is to use seating sensors, like Freespace, to indicate which seats are being taken.

“Free address/unassigned areas should have signage to indicate sanitation status between users. A simple “Clean” or “Used” sign will indicate readiness. Appropriate storage and accessories will keep surfaces clear for easy cleanability. Technology tools can provide a visual overview as to the density and availability of spaces within the office. Utilities available such as reserving spaces and a link up to email integrate well with already established user habits.”
