Change can be a scary word, so with this video, we provided some ideas on how to effectively communicate and manage change.
But first, let’s consider some of the many sources of change during a commercial move:
- A new workplace design – like an open office
- A longer commute
- A new neighborhood
- New neighbors
- New technologies
- Less paper
- Less personal space
- New responsibility
Change, especially as part of a building move or workspace redesign can have a significant impact on your people: the productivity, stress, focus, moral and well-being.
So what can we do?
Communicate
There are so many ways to do this. One of our favorite ways at BOS is through digital signage. Emails, meetings, newsletters, intranets and videos are also great tools to use. Being transparent, consistent, considerate and inclusive will result in an effective change communication strategy.
Inclusive
Involving your team in the move is another meaningful way to manage change. Assemble a move team, poll your employees on move decisions, solicit feedback and advice on select cushion colors, accessories or signage.
There are so many ways to enable your people to feel part of the new workspace. Just be sure not to pile too much ‘extra’ work onto too few people, they’re day-to-day work may suffer and could turn a positive opportunity into a negative experience.
Document It
Capturing move progress with short video or photo updates keeps your teams excited and in-the-know. Showcasing the finished space is also the perfect way to generate buzz, PR, viral sharing and engagement.
Culture
Keep culture in mind. A strong work culture can make a huge impact on your organization, lowers turnover, increases productivity, boosts moral, provides clarity and direction. As a catalyst for change, the move process is a phenomenal time to build, tweak, adjust or re-enforce your culture!
These are just a few of many ways to manage change, or, looking at it more positively, to optimize improvement potential.
The most important advice that we can give is that to work with a partner who you can trust, who can deliver success, and who can help you maximize the opportunity ahead of you.
BOS and Workspace Digital can do all of this, and we can do it in-house. Come and visit our home and discover why there is no better partner to guide you down the path that is right for your organization.
