Doing Your Best Focus Work In Today’s Workplace
Do you often find your workday full of projects and agendas, meetings and to do’s? You start each day with a plan to get so much done, but soon find yourself becoming distracted, focusing on low-priority tasks and, simply, getting distracted.
So how can you regain control of your time? Listen to our BOS Experts, Haworth Best In Class, share their best tips on how to be more productive during the work day.
Understanding How You Stay Motivated
Understanding how you stay motivated and what type of work environment allows you to do your best work and feel inspired along the way is key. Regularly reviewing your goals and progress helps stay on track. Seeing progress is a great motivator in itself, and also improves your outlook.
Knowing if you need to concentrate and work alone or get more accomplished by collaboration gives you a clear picture of how to successfully complete the task at hand.

“I feel like it depends on what kind of focus work is needed. If there is a need to work with another teammate, than I would say a collaborative meeting space. However, if it is work that I am the only one working on, then I would say it could either be my workstation or done remotely, which really depends on the situation.”
Quite Spaces Help With Focus
Being quiet promotes staying calm and composed. These, in turn, should result with faster work, higher work quality and far less stress, which has a productive value of its own. Quiet spaces give you time to reflect and analyze situations. Block out time to work in a quiet space in between your busy day and allow yourself time to accomplish high level tasks that require your full attention.

“Individual work spaces, privacy booths or small huddle rooms work best for focus work. Any place where the space can be quiet and uninterrupted.”
Flexibility In Your Workplace
Workspaces need to be flexible and responsive to meet people’s and organizational needs. Having the option of working in a space where the culture supports and understands your need as an individual provides you the opportunity to do your best work.
Having the option to work from home when needed allows employees to feel empowered to know what their workload entails and how to best accomplish everything successfully. This flexibility provides motivation to do your very best focus work depending on the project or task at hand.

“Focus work for me is done in my office or at my home. When I need to get through a series of projects quickly, no better place than a standard office or workstation.”
