How Does Artificial Intelligence View the Modern Workplace?
Artificial intelligence is accelerating at incredible spread, opening doors to both new challenges and opportunities. As the influence of this disruptive technology becomes more significant, the team of workplace experts at BOS were curious to understand how generative AI currently views the modern workplace. Below you’ll see a series of prompts entered into Bing’s AI image generator (powered by DALL-E 3) on December 29 2023. We believe you’ll find the results as interesting as we did.
General Observations: We think the images speak for themselves, but pay attention to the placement (or lack thereof) of people in the images, the perspective/position from which the image was generated, the style in which the image is depicted and the interpretation of the furnishing in respect to the overall environment.

What we Noticed:
Lots of people, natural light, biophilia (plants), artwork and accessories.

What we Noticed:
Images look like cartoons, people are wearing masks, mess everywhere, stress and fear, leadership depicted as monarchy, cubicles, profitability charts, post-it notes.
Prompt: Innovative Workplace
What we Noticed:
Lots of nature and biophilic design, everyone is focused and working, soft seating, plenty of natural light.
Prompt: Hybrid Workplace
What we Noticed:
Lots of computers (some with video calls), large square or rectangular work tables/surfaces, people either in the background or not in the picture, open plan.
Prompt: Remote Working
What we Noticed:
No socks or shoes, beaches, kitchen tables, outdoors, pets, working in many different positions.

What we Noticed:
Numerous depictions and art types, robots and humans together, future focused, a confusing primate.

What we Noticed:
Large open space with extremely high ceilings, very little biophilia, no branding, lack of interior lighting but lots of natural light, lots of people.

What we Noticed:
No people, lots of natural light, open plan, plants.

What we Noticed:
Very large spaces with exterior or atrium views, outdoor areas, pools, trees and plants, lots of glass, resort-like.

What we Noticed:
Looks very much like the other workplaces (no visible sacrifices made for budget), somewhat smaller spaces, resembles as learning space.
Prompt: Workplace of the Future
What we Noticed:
Robots (half the photos had no people), multi-level biophilia, displays on walls and floors, minimal pops of color.
In conclusion, it is clear that AI is forming an interesting perspective on the modern workplace. We will continue to track this perspective as the technology develops.
