Keynote Speakers Announced

Retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Brian Shul spent 20 years as a fighter pilot, being shot down over Vietnam and taking the wheel of the SR-71, the fastest plane ever built. Now he’s an accomplished author, speaker and photographer. He’ll talk about transformation in his life and compare it to the transformation of an architect over their career.

Sandy Mendler, AIA, LEED is a nationally recognized architect and planner who is dedicated to inspiring design that meets the challenges of health, climate and equity. She works to tailor each design process to an organization’s mission and purpose. Mendler will talk about aligning clients’ larger social purpose and engaging a broad, inclusive vision for the future.­

Husband-and-wife team Marlon Blackwell, FAIA, and Meryhati Johari Blackwell, AIA, ASID, LEED AP, will discuss their architecture and design process. They will use examples of selected design works to speak to a resilient architecture in the intersection of details, form and place. Marlon Blackwell is a 2020 AIA Gold Medal­ winner.
