Work Culture Types

Each workplace has a unique company culture, and while no one label can sum it up perfectly, there is absolutely a vibe that your office likely has. It helps to lean into this culture so you can create a cohesive workspace that your employees find enjoyable and comfortable. In fact, by doing so you’ll likely see that your employees are more productive, too.

Here are a few types of workplace cultures you might encounter. You might find, interestingly enough, that your space is a mix of a few of these!

Team-First

One wildly popular culture is the team-first workspace where employees’ happiness is the top priority. In a workplace like this, you’ll see plenty of team outings, lunches, and other perks that accommodate employees and their lives.

Strong Leadership

This is a space that prioritizes strong leaders, both existing and rising stars. Not only do these leaders ensure that they’ll grow in their positions, but they also set up their teams to succeed.

Traditional

Those that adhere to more traditional structures have clearly defined hierarchies and are often struggling a bit while trying to modernize. These are often the workplaces where you’re required to dress in business formal (or in business casual at the very least).

Horizontal

These are more of the go-with-the-flow employers where it’s a free spirit environment, common with startups. In these environments, it’s not so much about the title but more about keeping customers happy while considering the company’s values.

Innovation

A space that prioritizes creativity and innovation is one that prioritizes communication and staying on the cutting edge of the industry. They’re always tapped into new ways to communicate with consumers.

Mission-Driven

Often employees in a mission-driven environment are those who live and breathe the company’s mission. Devotion to the company’s values and achieving its goals is the number one priority, over work-life balance for instance.
