Project Design Consultant (Sales)
Duties of the Project Design Consultant – Illinois (Chicago and Suburbs)…
1.1. The Project Design Consultant will devote full and exclusive time and effort to the sale and promotion of products and services sold by Affordable Office Interiors d.b.a. Business Office Systems (referred to as “BOS” or the “Company”). The Project Design Consultant will not work for compensation for any other company or be self-employed without written management approval.
1.2. The Project Design Consultant will work in conformity with sales plans outlined by management and will promptly and carefully maintain reports as required by BOS. The Project Design Consultant will comply with all policies and directives of BOS.
1.3. BOS Project Design Consultants are expected to conduct business in an ethical and professional manner, and no policy or instruction to salespeople or other employees is intended to conflict with accepted business ethics. Salespeople are to understand and conduct business inside the legal codes of federal, state, and local government statutes.
1.4. It is understood that the Project Design Consultant should not accept any gifts, awards, prizes, etc. from any customer or supplier, without pre-approval and agreement of BOS Management.
1.5. Specific duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Efficient planning for effective time utilization.
Prompt and effective follow-up of assigned leads.
Identification of prospective customer firms and the appropriate buying influence within customer firms.
Contact of and securing of appointments with the identified buying influence within customer firms.
Identify/qualify the specific requirements of the customer firm.
Accurate identification of buyer’s pricing goals and delivery requirements.
Generation of accurate quotations.
Preparation of profitable and persuasive written proposals and professional presentations.
Prompt confirmation of selling terms and delivery dates.
Accurate and expeditious order preparation.
Systematic management of order through delivery.
Coordination of installation details/work order and post-installation services, as required.
Periodic follow-ups to generate repeat sales and referrals.
Production of adequate gross profit on each order.
Sufficient call volume to provide an even flow of orders and income.
Achievement of goals and quotas.
Maintenance of accurate customer and prospect records.
Prompt submittal of call and expense records.
Maintenance of cooperative relations with all internal departments and fellow employees.
The Project Design Consultant’s duties in connection with any sale or rental continue after a purchase order is received, and include rendering whatever assistance is necessary to insure that BOS is paid in full.
TITLE: Project Designer DEPARTMENT: Interior Design DIVISION: Professional Services REPORTS TO: Director of Design
The Project Designer assists in the performance of the activities that make up the design process. The focus of the Project Designer’s position is to gain practical experience by assisting Project and Senior Interior Designers in the design process.
The Project Designer will also spend time becoming proficient on the CAD. Since proficiency is obtained by exposure to a variety of applications and repetition, CAD operation will represent a major portion of the Project Designer’s time.
The Project Designer is expected to utilize all available corporate resources to provide professional assistance on assigned projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Gain proficiency in operation the CAD equipment.
B. Assists, when requested, in the Programming Phase of the Design Process.
Interviewing clients to determine requirements.
Coordinating and executing a site analysis.
Coordinating and executing a furniture/equipment inventory.
C. Assists, when requested, in the Preliminary Design Phase of the Design Process. This includes:
Preliminary block planning.
Budget cost estimates.
Presentation to the client.
D. Assists, when requested, in the Design Development Phase of the Design Process. This includes:
Space planning development with client consultation and presentation.
Furniture, material and finishes selection with client consultation and presentation.
Supporting documents; specifications, 3-D diagrams and project cost summaries.
E. Assists, when requested, in the preparation and edit of all documentation for the design project. This documentation includes:
Installation drawings and specifications of new and existing furniture
Product cost adjustment documents
Project analysis summaries
F. Assists, when requested, in the project implementation and installation phase of the design process. This phase includes:
Job site visits
As-built drawing documentation
G. Stays abreast of developments in the design profession and the needs within the organization and proposes ideas for problem solving, innovation and process improvement as appropriate.
H. Provides professional support and assistance to the design team in the development of materials utilized in presentation to the clients.
I. Carries out special projects and all other appropriate and reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time.
DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY
A. Personnel Authority.
This position has no delegated personnel authority.
B. Financial Authority
This position has no approval authority for the purchase of goods and services.
Must promote and maintain outstanding communications and service levels to all customers, seeking to facilitate and continually improve the process of doing business.
B. Departmental Staff
Must provide support and assistance when requested.
C. Service Departments
Must work effectively in conjunction with Technical and Administrative Services in arranging for the coordination and completion of the design process on a project.
D. Client Departments
Must provide support and services to the Sales and Project Management Departments as requested.
Must foster and maintain good working relationships with vendors and suppliers.
This job is performed in both our offices and those of our customers. At times the job requires a commitment to extended hours to meet deadlines. Some installations take place in evening hours and over the weekends. Most required travel is within the Chicago metropolitan area.
A. Must be able to communicate effectively to customers and with others over whom he or she has no organizational authority.
B. Must be proficient in drafting techniques and had exposure to CAD through education.
C. Must be able to assist in the assembly of presentation materials that convey a professional appearance and reflect quality and craftsmanship in coordination of materials and finishes.
D. Must be proficient in the use of an architect’s scale and other drafting instruments.
E. Must have a good understanding of the mathematics required to successfully complete all phases of the design process.
F. Must have a bachelors degree in Interior Design from an accredited institution.
G. Must have completed a successful internship.
H. Must have had exposure, through education, to Space Planning techniques and Panel Systems.
I. Must demonstrate an ability to provide creative and innovative design solutions that meet the aesthetic and functional needs of each client while complying with code requirements.
J. Must be able to perform effectively under a minimum of supervision.
K. Must be able to work effectively as a team player on independent and group projects.
L. Must be open to accepting direction and constructive criticism as a means of gaining the knowledge and experience needed to develop and apply interior design skills.
M. Must be sufficiently flexible and resourceful to cope with the time pressures and coordination challenges inherent in the position.
